Story

Vita Magus is a film about a magician trying to bring color to a dreary, flat world. Her street performance is unsuccessful and the rain makes her leave hastily. She drops a prop on the road as she goes back. The day has drained her of color as well. Even her vivid home does not return her to her original shade. Angela knocks on her door and returns the lost item. This act of kindness brings color not only back to the magician but to the girl as well. The story ends with the girl returning home, the world now a slightly brighter place.

Standing in the pale light of a street lamp, Vita Magus raises her wand and begins her act. A long time has passed since she was known as other names. The Enigma, The Goddess of Mystery, now she is an old woman reduced to legerdemain for commuters and bedraggled passers. It doesn’t matter. Vita lives for the magic. Every trick adds a burst of color to the cold, brief April day. The world, for the most part, ignores her. Even her beloved familiar, Lucius the Pig, fails to draw much attention despite expert capering. Only a young girl with big eyes, Angela Diamante, takes notice. There is a spark in their interaction that ends quickly due to Angela’s hurried parents. April showers rain Vita out and now her magic is all but used up. Turned an ashen gray, she packs up and returns home hastily. Lucius hurries to keep up and leaves a treasured prop behind. Vita and Lucius return home, where they are greeted by explosive colors, antique wares and Dickensian furniture. A warm cup of tea and a roaring fire help warm Vita’s body though her soul remains a feeble shade. Quick, quiet knocks at the door rouse her from her thoughts. Vita finds Angela standing at her doorstep. Illumined with vivid color, the girl returns the lost prop to Vita. The girl, the magician, and the pig return to a lively hue as the rain disappears and the magic is returned. Angela walks home and Vita stays on the stoop with a smile on her face.
