Here is the refined story as hammered out by the story committee. We reviewed and noted all of the suggestions and comments in peoples storyboards etc. We tried hard to include at least something from each groups' input. This is the story that the storyboard and animatic are built upon.
Vita
Magus
Synopsis:
A day in the life of a 65+- year old female
street magician.
She thinks life itself is magical
(as shown by her being the only thing in color in a BW world) Though both her
attitude, demeanor and magic tricks, she tries to share this magic/beauty with
a plaza full of average people who pay little to no attention as they are
distracted by technology, etc. As the
day goes on, the magician’s color begins to fade as she is
being dragged down by the loneliness and isolation of the people around
her. Every time she/we thinks she makes
an impact on someone, they are distracted, lead away or lose interest.
By the end of a long day, she is drained,
both physically and metaphorically/colorfully.
She believes that she has not make a difference in anyone’s
life and has given almost all of herself away.
As it begins to rain, we follow her
home, through angular streets to her neighborhood. A young girl (who we recognize from earlier)
watches from a window as the magician walks to her home a few doors down. As the magician passes, an item is
dropped.
The Magician enters her home…a
beautiful 3D world showing that, normally, her life is beautiful and the magic
and beauty are ‘real’. She is still drained of color.
A knock at the door reveals the
young girl. She is returning the dropped
item. The little girl has a big smile on
her face and she is now in full color showing that she didn’t
forget what she witnessed earlier and she too now understands and has embraced
the beauty/magic that is life.
As she returns the item, the color
returns to the magician and we understand that she HAS made a difference in at
least one person.
The little girl returns home
remaining in color and casting color onto things she passes.
General setting:
An Italian type plaza
Starting in early morning and continuing to nightfall
The day starts out pleasant and clouds up and begins to rain
by evening
The city is thin and angular which is a visual juxtaposition
between the organic and curvy magician.
The setting and the people in in are Black and White (or very
desaturated).
The magician starts and ends in full color, only losing
color as the day progresses and she’s ‘given’
all of herself away.
Act 1
Opening morning spotlight scene through her long day of
trying to share the magic. As the day
ends, it begins to rain
Act 2
We follow the now desaturated magician through the cold hard
city back to her own usually beautiful home.
Act 3
A young girl who was influenced earlier in the day returns
an item to the magician restoring her (magician’s) faith, and therefore
color. The now colorful girl goes home
through spotlights (mirroring beginning) to presumably continue to spread the
magic.
